Join Hands on Art -A Creative Lab for Children!
OUR PROGRAM CREATES:
RISK TAKERS • PROBLEM SOLVERS • CREATIVE THINKERS • INDEPENDENT • AND • CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS
Our goal is to prepare children for the future and we use Art as the tool. Throughout the process of creating, kids get the opportunity to problem-solve and feel comfortable making mistakes, fixing them and learning from them, in our NEW HANDS ON ART PROGRAM! Students are now completely in charge of their own process of creating and we are here to facilitate and emphasize their discovery. Iraima Otteson, founder of Hands on Art, had combined different methods of learning, years of experience and her own childhood upbringing that she considered the key to the foundation of her successful life as a Creative Thinker, Problem Solver, and Risk Taker. Elements she considers remarkably important to become successful in any career path the children can take, later on in life. The difference between an average professional and a successful one is Creativity! Learn more about Iraima Otteson, HERE.

Fun Art Beginner – Ages 6 to 9
Our projects for 6-9-year-old are a lot of fun and designed to stimulate different skills through the process of creation. For this class, we embrace problem-solving, innovative thinking, and the empowering feeling of creating something from nothing, there are no expectations but the pure process of being entertained by using our brains to create. At a young age I was unintentionally introduced by my mother, to “Process Art”. Process Art is similar to the Reggio Emilia Approach. Wikipedia explains the principles of this approach as:
- Children must have some control over the direction of their learning;
- Children must be able to learn through experiences of touching, moving, listening, and observing;
- Children have a relationship with other children and with material items in the world that they must be allowed to explore;
- Children must have endless ways and opportunities to express themselves
We wind up stimulating creativity and self-expression by encouraging students to add their own unique details into the project. At the end of class, we celebrate individuality by complimenting each others art work. Children are natural creators and enjoy every step of the process.
Some of the mediums we use in this class are–but not limited to–watercolor, acrylic, tempera, pastel, chalk, clay, printing, serigraphy (T-Shirt printing) and paper mache.
